چکیده
Trans-ionospheric signals such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) propagating through irregular ionospheric plasma structures may experience phase variation and amplitude fades causing degradation in system performance. This paper investigates latitudinal structure of equatorial F-region irregularities (EFI) African region at different seasons using a GPS-based proxy index (rate change TEC (ROTI)). The results obtained indicate dependence EFI on local time, season latitude. Its occurrence time ranges between 19:00 0:00LT depending season. appearance is earlier equinoxes, particularly March equinox, late June solstice. Further, its lies generally within ±22° magnetic latitudes for all seasons. probability occurrence, which observed to be higher equinoxes than solstices, almost comparable across entire where it was while observations solstices dip around equator. Furthermore, average seasonal value ROTI indicates clear dependence; with ±(0°-12°) latitude extends up 18° south. While hemispheric asymmetry values favored by profile, gradient could help delineate peak occurrence. In addition, severe are mostly most pronounced crest mainly Conversely, moderate typically frequent equator poleward edge ionization anomaly (EIA) northern hemisphere.

Equatorial F-region plasma depletion drifts: latitudinal and seasonal variations
The equatorial ionospheric irregularities have been observed in the past few years by different techniques (e.g. ground-based radar, digisonde, GPS, optical instruments, in situ satellite and rocket instrumentation), and its time evolution and propagation characteristics can be used to study important aspects of ionospheric dynamics and thermosphere-ionosphere coupling. At present, one of the m...
متن کاملStudy of equatorial E region irregularities using rare daytime VHF scintillation observations
Scintillations on VHF radio signal are sparsely observed during daytime due to unavailability of strong electron density irregularities in equatorial E or F region. Type I/II irregularities observed at E region altitudes during the daytime are linked with either two-stream or gradient drift instability. The occurrence of these irregularities in presence of strong blanketing Es (Esb) can produce...
متن کاملGeomagnetic field variations at dip equatorial latitudes of West Africa
A comprehensive study of geomagnetic field variations has been carried out at the dip equatorial latitudes of West Africa. The data obtained during the 1993 French participation in the International Equatorial Electrojet Year experiment in Africa was used for the analysis. Only the quiet condition was examined. Variation in the three geomagnetic field elements (H, D, and Z) showed more variabil...
